Artists Profiles:
Jo Tracy:
is a multi disciplinary
artist based in Redfern since 1995.
Jo founded Redfern
Artists Group in 2009 and has been exhibiting yearly in group and
solo exhibitions since 1989. Jo's art practice produces works in
many disciplines and she has been working with digital and new media since
the early 90s,
Jo's work for The
“Home” exhibitions explore an imagined, historical narrative
based on the history of decorative objects as both objects of beauty
and status symbols. It sees the return of her digital works in the
form of “Space Deco” inspired digital prints and some favourite
motifs, such as “Millenium Man”
Karin Hasse:
Since graduating from
National Art School,
Karin has worked in film and tv art production
and has always had a strong interest in experimental techniques in a
variety of mediums.
She participated in the
previous RAG show, “RAG REVOLT” and has known Jo since they were
at the National Art School together.
“Pushing the
materials outside the boundaries of their common use” Karin often
explores concepts related to the body through these mediums.
Jude Williams:
Jude
creates harmonious, abstract landscapes out of ordinary household
refuse such as discarded cereal boxes and clothing. Her thoughtful,
transcendent works reveal the beauty in the ordinary and speak of
transformation and rebirth.
Alison Burke:
Alison's
distinctive paintings explore the various masks of humanity through
her
figurative
style. Working mainly in acrylic, her striking works reveal a vivid
imagination, a passion for life and an understanding of its beauty
and mystery.
Bridget Lafferty:
Bridget
is long time resident of the neighbourhood and her Redfern inspired
ceramic works are a continuation of themes explored in her paintings.
They reflect inspirations found in her local environment as well as
her interest in community and social engagement.
Gaylene Smith:
Gaylene
exhibited in out first RAG show “RAGTIME” at Global gallery in
Paddington in 2011.
She
is a self taught, Redfern local, with special needs, who joined RAG
after attending Jo's community art classes.
Her
delightful works are an unfiltered response to her love for painting
and her deep longing to tell her personal history.
Jill Mayne:
Jill
is a Redfern based artist working mainly in acrylic. Andy Warhol,
Pop, Asian and Graphic Art have been major influences on Jill's work.
Her bold, graphic works for this exhibition are inspired by
interpersonal relationships, domestic harmony/disharmony and the
comforts/discomforts of home.
Sid Sledge:
Sid's
charming and poignant works reflect on the
human condition in a
whimsical,
imaginative
and dream-like way.
Booyart (Alex Smith)
Shotcall
Productions Film maker and Redfern artist Alex Smith, who also goes
under the name Booyart, creates powerful, dense, vibrating images
inspired by urban life.
Julie Doye:
Julie
is a Sydney based Pop artist known for her graphic, expressive,
figurative paintings.
For
the “Home” exhibition she has been inspired by the folds and
forms she observed in a basket of laundry. Her bold, colourful works
bring a charming magic to the mundane.
